Investment for the future
For more than 200 years there have been tailors on Savile Row and the traditions have been honed through the centuries. The Skinner family has played an integral part in that history and today’s apprentices receive the same detailed instructions on quality, handcraft skills and etiquette, so necessary for tomorrow’s Masters.
GOLDEN SHEARS AWARD
Held every two years the Golden Shears Awards recognise the finest in emerging tailoring talent in Great Britain. Entrants must produce a tailored outfit, which top bespoke tailors first judge for the finesse of the design, cutting and tailoring. The best 24 entrants qualify for the Gala Catwalk Show and final judging by VIP fashion judges to select the winners.
Since 1998, when the competition was revamped, our apprentices have won the coveted ‘Golden Shears’ on three occasions and have represented in most finals, including Nina Penlington’s 1830’s-inspired tailcoat, a finalist in 2011 and Emma Martin’s 2013 Finalist piece, a William Morris patterned, cropped Mess-style coat with reversed peak lapels.
