At approximately 17.30 BST today, Her Majesty The Queen becomes the longest-reigning British monarch, passing the previous record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

The exact moment  is not known because her father, George VI, passed away in the early hours of 6 February 1952, but she has now been the British sovereign for 63 years and seven months – calculated at 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes.

On this momentous day, Her Majesty The Queen spoke briefly to the gathered crowds in Scotland and is quoted as saying, “Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones – my own is no exception – but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness.”

Crowned as Queen at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953, an event attended by our very own Michael Skinner, her reign has seen significant social change and 12 prime ministers, two more than served under Queen Victoria.

As Holder of the Royal Warrant, we would like to congratulate Her Majesty on this achievement.
