We salute HRH Prince Charles on the occasion of his 62nd birthday.

Attending lunch at the Tower of London to mark His Majesty’s birthday, after the official 62 Gun Salute, fired as a sign of respect, we toasted HRH with ‘Royal Salute’, the world’s leading luxury Scotch whisky. Matured for a minimum of 21 years, Royal Salute was created in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Tower of London is the only location from where a 62 Gun Salute can be fired: the traditional 21 rounds, plus a further 20 because of the Tower’s status as both a Royal Palace and Fortress, and, only for Royal anniversaries, an additional 21 shots as a mark of respect for the Sovereign from the City of London.

Following the Gun Salute, we enjoyed a tasting of the exquisite Royal Salute range in the Queen’s House. Built in 1530 for Queen Anne Boleyn, the Queen’s House is one of the few Tudor buildings to have survived the Great Fire of London of 1666 and where Guy Fawkes was interrogated and signed his confession.

Today, it’s the private residence of the Queen’s representative at the Tower of London, known as the Constable of the Tower.
