Savile Row Bespoke

It’s often said that bespoke tailoring is a good investment and recently that belief was reinforced in New York City at Bonham’s film memorabilia auction titled ‘Lights, Camera, Auction’.

Amongst the thousands of auction lots was a safari suit we made for silent film star and Hollywood legend, Rudolph Valentino in 1923. The successful winning bid of $20,000 far exceeded the auction Reserve.

The cream wool knickers and matching half Norfolk jacket with four flap pockets, bears the label of “J. Dege & Sons Ltd., 13 Conduit Street, London,” inscribed in black ink and dated 8th August 1923.

To this day we continue to handstitch a label into the pocket of each finished garment to authenticate it as being genuinely made by us, Dege & Skinner of Savile Row.

This bespoke suit has special significance as Valentino purchased it during his honeymoon with Natacha Rambova.

Previously, Christie’s Auction House has seen a military uniform we made for the late Michael Jackson sell for in excess of £10k, proving the adage that buying bespoke is a genuine investment opportunity.
