Coronation Medal

Congratulations to Head Cutter Nicholas De’Ath, awarded the official Coronation Medal for his work on various uniforms and military-inspired outfits for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Nicholas was presented with his now treasured Coronation Medal by Her Majesty Queen Camilla in a ceremony at royal residence Clarence House in London on Wednesday 31st May 2023.

Remarkable Service

The Coronation Medal acts as a thank you gift from the nation to commemorate the Coronation for the people who were instrumental in making the historic service so remarkable.

Everyone who actively contributed and supported the Coronation on 6 May is eligible, with more than 400,000 Coronation Medals likely to be issued.

The medal design itself features a double portrait of Their Majesties on the front and a version of the Royal Cypher, a laurel wreath and the date of the Coronation on the reverse.

The medals are made of nickel silver and plated in nickel and the ribbon is made up of red, blue and white vertical stripes – the colours of the Union Flag.

The Coronation Medal was designed by Martin Jennings who also designed the official effigy of The King for the new coins issued by the Royal Mint and the Medal has been made by Worcestershire Medal Service Ltd in Birmingham.

Team Involvement

A large number of the bespoke team based at Number 10 Savile Row contributed a significant amount of work to the various military uniforms and pieces of ceremonial dress seen on display during the televised Coronation.

Family Business

And a very special thank you to the entire team, including our Apprentices, Front of House, Managing Director and Chairman, all of whom spent their May Bank Holiday at The Royal Mews hand- sewing buttons on to uniforms and changing the Royal Cypher.
