Social Calendar II

There are so many wonderful events to attend in the social calendar, so how do you know what to wear, to which event?

And remember, if you’d like to have a bespoke piece made for you here on Savile Row, as a guide it takes approximately 12 weeks from the initial order to receiving the final garments, so please don’t delay your enquiry.

Alternatively, if time and budget don’t allow for a bespoke service, we also offer ready-to-wear and made-to-measure options.

Howzat!

Cricket is a game watched by a truly global audience and the many international test matches attract a wide variety of people who enjoy watching the beautiful game.

Lords, often referred to as the 'home of cricket' because of its place in the history of the game, encourages smart casual dressing for matches. And, like Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and RHS Chelsea Flower Show, novelty clothing and promotional clothing is prohibited from being worn inside the cricket ground.

Being a summer sport, think pastel colours and lightweight fabrics, or a smart blazer paired with plain trousers and topped off with a straw hat to provide protection from the sun during the long hours of play.

As well as making bespoke blazers, we also sell ready-to-wear blazers.

MCC

We're proud to be an authorised seller of official club merchandise for Marylebone Cricket Club, or the MCC as it's more commonly known.

The MCC's 'egg and bacon' colours are recognised worldwide and are worn proudly by members when attending matches at Lords.

We stock a number of MCC official items, for sale online and in-store.

There are three products in the MCC’s highly recognisable and striking egg and bacon colours, those being trouser braces, a neck tie and a bow-tie. There’s also the MCC ‘city’ neck tie, which is navy blue with the club’s crest printed across it.

We can also make a hat band in the classic egg and bacon club colours, which looks perfect on a straw hat.

President's Choice

In his book titled 'Fry's Ties', MCC President Stephen Fry very kindly extolled the virtues of his MCC necktie, purchased from us here at Number 10 Savile Row.

To quote the book and MCC President Stephen Fry directly, “I think that, unlike the Garrick Club’s ‘salmon and cucumber’ tie which can be sported anywhere, it is rather frowned upon to wear the MCC’s ‘egg and bacon’ anywhere other than Lords. To wear it to a match at Oval or Headingly, for example, would surely be the height of poor form.”

Cowes Week is one of the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events. A key highlight of the British sporting summer that has been held in early August every year since 1826, except during the two world wars and the Covid pandemic in 2020.

Over the years the event has attracted British and foreign royalty, and many famous faces. Advice on what to wear?

We suggest you layer up because you’re on the seashore. A classic two button sports jacket will keep your look casual while still remaining smart, or alternatively for a more nautical look, you could try a classic navy blazer, either single-breasted or double-breasted.

Maritime Influence

As a bespoke tailoring house we can and indeed do make all sorts of bespoke clothing at the request of our customers. We take pride in the expertise of our team of skilled makers here at Number 10 Savile Row.

This year's Cowes Week takes place between 27th July and 2nd August, so if you're thinking of ordering something new for this year's Cowes, we'd encourage you to get in touch as soon as possible so we can take measures and get started making you an unique outfit for this stylish sailing event in the social calendar.
