Wool Month 2025

It’s Wool Month and we’re celebrating! Used extensively in bespoke tailoring, wool is one of the most sustainable, resilient and beautiful resources there is.

Nature's Best

With justifiable and ever mounting concerns about fast fashion and its obvious, harmful and wasteful environmental impact, wool shines through like no other fibre.

It's 100% renewable, biodegradable, temperature regulating and durable.

And that's why we love it in the bespoke tailoring world and why we're asking you as the consumer to choose wool too.

Investing in good quality wool pieces that last will reduce man-made fibre landfill waste and help to make a positive impact on the people and the planet on which we all live.

The Campaign for Wool was initiated fifteen years ago by Patron, HM King Charles III, when he was HRH Prince of Wales.

Pioneering

The Campaign for Wool and the International Wool Textile Organisation presided over the signing of The Dumfries House Wool Declaration in 2016. This “Custodians of The Wool Industry” declaration was created to ensure that key players from shepherds to shop owners commit to protect the environment and uphold the best possible practices for sheep welfare, commerce and industry.

During the reception at Dumfries House, also attended by David Gandy, our very own Alex Hills, at that time an apprentice, had the pleasure of being introduced to His Majesty The King.

The Row Goes Green

Part of the Campaign for Wool, the inaugural 'Savile Row Field Day' in 2010 saw Savile Row itself closed to traffic as two flocks of sheep grazed on luscious, freshly laid pasture.

The free to attend event to promote wool and all its uses even made front page newspaper headlines as far afield as New York!

Tended by Wiltshire based farmer Harry Parker (here with Douglas Cordeaux from Fox Brothers), a professional shepherd and two sheepdogs, the curly horned flock of 'Exmoor Horn' sheep was much admired by 10,000 or so people over the course of the public event, designed to highlight to consumers the true wonders of wool.

Without Wool

Since its inception fifteen years ago, we've been proud and active supporters of the Campaign for Wool.

Why?

Because wool is absolutely vital in the handcraft of what we create here at our bespoke tailoring house and shirt-makers on Savile Row. Without wool, our talented team of makers wouldn't be able to do what we do here on Savile Row.

Choosing wool isn’t just a fashion decision, it’s a vote for the planet. Whether in your wardrobe, home or everyday lifestyle, every wool piece carries value far beyond its warmth.
