Savile Row celebrates 50 years of the Golden Shears Awards with a landmark showcase during London Fashion Week. A free public exhibition uniting Savile Row tailors in honour of five decades of craftsmanship, creativity, and the next generation of bespoke talent.
50 Years of Golden Shears

Team Talent
The Golden Shears Awards, dubbed as the “Oscars of the tailoring world”, awarded Coat Maker Jon Pickering the 'Rising Star Award' in 2021 and his award winning outfit is now on display in our Savile Row shop window.
Jon trained to be a coat maker under the guidance of former Golden Shears Finalist Emma Martin, and he continues to make exquisite bespoke tailored garments in our workshop on Savile Row.
Herself, Emma is now training apprentices on our behalf so that the skills of bespoke tailoring that she and our team so wonderfully utilise for our customers, can be safely passed along to the next generation of cutters, coat makers, trouser makers and vest makers.

Bold Choices
Seen here with his award, Jon's Golden Shears entry was a striking red and black ensemble, reflecting the bold spirit and artistry that’s possible with bespoke tailoring. His choice of such an unusually long pile, strongly checked cloth to grab the judges attention when paraded down the catwalk. The design itself matching the cloth’s boldness, yet giving a comfortable, relaxed and flowing ease of wear, catwalk or glamorous night out.
Full design: double-breasted coat with sharply cut peak lapels and softer patch pockets, with wide legged, turned-up trousers, topped with a baker boy cap and worn with a full cape, all made in the same stunning cloth from Holland & Sherry.

Replicas of this Golden Shears ‘Rising Star Award’ winning entry were then worn during the globally televised Lord Mayor’s Show in 2022.
Lasting Success For Talented Makers
Prior to Jon, our other successful Golden Shears Finalists, all of whom are also now training the next generation of talented young cutters and tailors here at Dege & Skinner, are Military Specialist Iona Knight (2019), Cutter Alex Hills (2017) and former BBC’s Young Tailor of the Year, Coat Maker Emma Martin (2001).
Windows along Savile Row will be displaying these outfits until Saturday 27 September 2025 (inclusive), between 10am-5pm (except Sunday).

Each of our own successful entries into the Golden Shears Awards, including 2007 Winner Roxanne Jones, will soon be featured in posts published here in Our Journal.
